HPV Test
Detect HPV Virus Early to Prevent Cervical Cancer and STIs You May Not Know You Have
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted virus worldwide.
Most individuals infected with HPV show no symptoms, and the body can usually clear the virus within 1–2 years. However, in some cases, certain strains of HPV can persist and lead to serious health issues such as cervical cancer, oral cancer, anal cancer, or genital warts.
Currently, we can detect HPV early, before the body shows any symptoms or abnormal cell changes.
What is HPV?
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a virus with more than 100 strains.
Among these:
- Some strains are Low-risk → causing genital warts.
- Some strains are High-risk → linked to cancer, such as HPV 16, 18.
HPV can be transmitted through:
- Sexual intercourse with or without a condom
- Skin-to-skin contact in the genital area
- From mother to child during childbirth (rare cases).
How is HPV Tested?
At LINNA Clinic, HPV testing is simple and painless. The doctor will collect a sample from the cervix (for women) or can be done in conjunction with a Pap smear to increase accuracy.
The testing options include:
- HPV DNA Test – Directly detects the genetic material of the virus (suitable for high-risk strains).
- Co-testing – Tests for HPV along with a Pap smear in one visit.
- HPV Typing – Analyzes the type of virus detected to assess the risk for future cancer development.
Preparation for the Test
- It’s best to test when not on your period.
- Avoid douching for at least 24 hours before the test.
- Refrain from sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours before testing.
- No fasting required unless advised by the doctor.
Why Should You Get Tested?
- To screen for cervical cancer before symptoms appear.
- To know if you’re infected with high-risk HPV strains.
- Helps the doctor plan for follow-up tests, such as repeat Pap smears or Colposcopy.
- To assess the need for additional HPV vaccines.
- To ensure a safe sexual health plan for both you and your partner.
Who Should Get Tested?
- Women aged 25 and above.
- Those who have been sexually active.
- Those who have had abnormal Pap smear results.
- Those planning to get the HPV vaccine.
- Those who wish to have a comprehensive sexual health check-up.
